DEH Summer Seminar Series 1

The Department of English and Humanities organized two talks on Thursday, August 1, 2019 as part of its Summer Seminar Series.

The first talk was given Ms. Nazia Manzoor, Senior Lecturer (on leave) in the Department of English and Modern Languages, North South University, who is currently pursuing her doctoral studies at SUNY, Albany.

The talk, entitled "Sympathy, Kinship, Humanity - The Making of a Political Subject," was part of her doctoral thesis which examines the conceptual and theoretical role of race in the construction of the human as a political subject.

Prof. Fakrul Alam introduced the speaker to the audience comprising faculty members of DEH, students, and guests.

The second part of the day featured Ms. Dilruba Z. Ara, a Swedish-Bangladeshi author, known for her novels such as Blame. Prof. Golam Sarwar Chowdhury was "In Conversation with Dilruba Z. Ara" where he questioned the writer about her process and subject matter. Budding writers among the students and faculty members also gained insight about the writing process and choosing subjects or ideas.

The talks ended with remarks from Prof. Shamsad Mortuza, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of ULAB and the Head of the Department of English and Humanities.
