The Department of English and Humanities at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh organized an online student workshop on “Speaking Skills” on January 9, 2022. The workshop was conducted by Md. Muntasir Mamun, Assistant Professor, DEH.

The aim of the session was to highlight the importance of speaking skills and help students understand the ways to hold the audience’s attention. There was a lot of emphasis on getting the audience involved in the discussion while keeping the structure organized. Some non-verbal aspects of being a good speaker include wearing formal attire, changing facial expressions, movements and gestures, etc.

Some other tips to overcome stage fright were suggested. These include taking deep breaths, exhibiting confidence, positive self-affirmations, avoiding errors and managing eye contact. The tips and tricks mentioned in the workshop can be used to enhance speaking skills, especially for course presentations.

The workshop included a participatory element where participants were encouraged to practice speaking by telling ghost stories. The session was fun and interactive where participants asked questions and clarified their confusions about speaking.
