DEH Spring 2022 Orientation

The Department of English and Humanities at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh hosted its Orientation Program on February 20, 2022, to welcome the incoming BA and MA students of Spring 2022. The freshers were welcomed to their academic lives with motivation from prominent speakers.

The Head of the Department and Associate Professor of the Department of English and Humanities, Ms. Arifa Ghani Rahman, introduced the freshers to the faculty members of DEH in her opening address. Following this, Professor Kaiser Haq and Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam shared inspirational words of motivation and wisdom with the aspiring students.

Ms. Raihana Sultana, Cultural Affairs Specialist, Academic Exchange Programs, Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy Dhaka, graced the orientation program as the guest speaker. She talked about the wide variety of career opportunities that English majors can access both locally and internationally under the tutelage of DEH during her speech.

The cultural session began with Humaira Mehnaz reciting the poem “Ek shondhae ghore firi ami tomar hoyei” by Salma Sultana. A delightful cover, sung by Alen Henry Costa of the song ‘Everything I do, I do it for you’ by Bryan Adams, followed the poetry recitation. Later, Lamia Faiza, a second semester student, shared her experience at DEH to encourage the freshers. Afterwards, the cultural segment showcased a dance by Ryma Rahman Heya to the song ‘Basanta eshe geche’ and Lamia Jashim Uddin recited the poem ‘A Dream Within a Dream’ by Edgar Allan Poe. Following this, Md. Mashiur Rahaman, an MA student, spoke to the freshers about his experience and congratulated them on choosing DEH. He also offered valuable pieces of advice to the freshers. The segment ended with Marzuk Ahmed Khan Mojlish and Fahmeda Akter Ador’s mesmerizing duet cover of the song “Ekta gopon kotha.” At the end of the orientation program, Senior Lecturer, Md. Zaki Rezwan gave the vote of thanks to the organizers, volunteers, and participants.

Sanzida Alam hosted the event with the help of Shahriyer Hossain Shetu, Teaching Assistant, BA in English, DEH. The event poster was designed by Md. Masayal Islam.
