The Department of English and Humanities (DEH) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh organized the Second Forum of the Summer 2022 Curriculum Integration (CI) program online on August 8, 2022. This semester's Curriculum Integration theme is “Gender: The Binary and Beyond”.

The guest speaker for the second forum was Dr. Elora Halim Chowdhury, professor of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, USA. In her speech, Dr. Chowdhury broadly sketched the study of Transnational or International Gender Studies on women in particular. She raised the issue of how the transnational perspective influences our actions and other people across the world to make a connection between the lives and cultures of people. Dr. Chowdhury elaborated on the “Feminism” topic of how the globalized north became a “Feminized region.” She also shed light on physical violence against women even after they are participating in political and economic development. Dr. Chowdhury pointed out how colonization, capitalist development, and racialization are the reasons for violence against women. She related this with “Neoliberalism and Women’s Empowerment.”  The main purpose for focusing on this matter was to address women’s position in our society, culture, and economic development while they are being neglected and physically abused.

After the elaborate discussion, Arifa Ghani Rahman, Head of the Department, addressed the third gender issue. She also thanked Dr. Chowdhury and other participants of the CI forum. Then Dr. Syeda Farzana Sultana, Assistant Professor, DEH, also the organizer of the Summer 2022 CI program along with Muntasir Mamun, Assistant Professor, DEH, gave her vote of thanks to the speaker, Dr. Chowdhury, the participants, and the volunteers. The second forum was hosted by Amreeta Lethe Chowdhury, Teaching Assistant, DEH.
