The students from the course ENG 511 (English Language Learning & Teaching) in the MA program of the Department of English and Humanities, ULAB, organized a virtual event titled “Future Prospects of English Graduates in the Development Sector” on December 10, 2022 under the supervision of the course teacher Golam Kader Zilany. The invited facilitator of the event was Ms. Munia Islam Mozumder, a Hubert H. Humphrey fellow at Vanderbilt University for 2022-2023.

In the session, Ms. Munia showed the career trajectories of working in the development sector. However, what she emphasized more on was nurturing a passion to dedicate oneself to one’s community and the excitement of becoming reasons for others’ betterment while working in the development sector. For English graduates, she said, there are plenty of opportunities in this sector to start careers. Graduates can become teachers, program officers, material developers, translators, teachers’ trainers, etc.

More than 60 participants from ULAB and beyond joined the interactive session. The Head of the Department, Ms. Arifa Ghani Rahman gave a vote of thanks to the students for arranging the program and also showed her gratitude to the facilitator of the session, Ms. Munia, and the course teacher, Mr. Golam Kader Zilany. The session ended with a brief speech by Mr. Zilany who highlighted the significance of taking responsibility to address pressing issues and sharing how this event was connected to the course syllabus under the overarching theme of ELT leadership and management.
