The Department of English and Humanities at ULAB organized the Fall 2022 Commencement program on January 2, 2023, for successful graduating students of BA and MA. The event was organized by the students of DEH from Batch 192 to congratulate and celebrate the well-earned accomplishment of the graduating students, and wish them the best as they embark on a new journey. The theme for this commencement was Oh, the places you will go.

The program commenced with opening remarks and heartfelt congratulations to the successful graduates. With encouraging words and sincere felicitations, the event was kicked off by by Ms. Arifa Ghani Rahman, Associate Professor and Head, DEH. Then Dr. Syed Manzoorul Islam, Professor at DEH, congratulated the students with his wise words. The Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, Professor Kaiser Haq inspired the students with his poetic presence and motivating words. Professor Shamsad Mortuza, Special Adviser to the Board of Trustees, ULAB, offered advice on how to face obstacles and seize possibilities, in the professional and academic fields, whichever the graduating students chose to pursue in the near future. He further addressed the significance of being an academic and English as a discipline.

Students from the MA and BA in English took part in a cultural performance dedicated to the graduates. The program began with a fabulous song performance, “Rain” by Tahosin Tasnim Hoque. The melodious cover sung by Fahmeda Akter Ador of the song, “Beche Thakar Gaan” by Anupam Roy, with Marzuk Ahmed Khan Mojlis on the guitar revived the audience's emotions. Then DEH graduating students, Sadia Mukarrama from BA and Abdul Mumin from MA, shared their precious memories with their classmates, fellow students, and faculty members.

The cultural program was followed by a segment led by Teaching Assistant, Sanzida Alam. She engaged the students and faculty with a word association game that brought out memories and beautiful thoughts regarding their journey at ULAB.

A video presentation of the graduates’ memories with ULAB was then screened. Then, to lighten the mood, a Bangla song was performed by Mithila Tarannum, “Tomake Chai”. To bring in a touch of nostalgia, Suraiya Alam, with her own version, recited the poem “Mone Thakbe” by Aronyok Basu. The cultural segment resumed with Arohe Roy Lazz rendering an exciting musical piece, “Numb” by Linkin Park. A successive musical performance of the song “Kodom” by Blue Jeans was staged by Mustofa Zahir on the vocals and on the guitar.

Finally, to everyone’s surprise and delight, an impromptu singing performance of Moana’s “How Far I'll Go” and “Memories” by Maroon 5 was rendered an MA graduating student, Khadija Atia while other students joined her.

The program was hosted by Tahosin Tasnim Hoque and Shahriyer Hossain Shetu. The TAs of DEH, Shahriyer Hossain Shetu and Sanzida Alam were responsible for coordinating the program while Masayal Islam designed the poster for the event.
