DEH Summer 2023 Commencement

On September 2, 2023, the Department of English and Humanities, ULAB, hosted the Summer 2023 Commencement Ceremony for the outgoing students of the BA and MA programs at the auditorium of the ULAB Research Building in Dhanmondi. The theme for the event was “Chasing Rainbows, Seizing Dreams,” where the Commencement Speaker was DEH alumna, Sirajum Munira Joti, Fellow, 2022 Cohort, Teach for Bangladesh.

Head and Associate Professor of the Department, Ms. Arifa Ghani Rahman, and Professor Shamsad Mortuza, Professor and Special Advisor (BoT), respectively, congratulated the graduates and shared their inspirational words, urging the graduates to inspire others as they move on to different paths. The graduates were encouraged to remember to give back to others and contribute to society just as they have received many opportunities.

The Commencement Speaker, Sirajum Munira Joti, shared anecdotes of her journey to success from DEH and offered motivational words for the students, asking them to embrace change and continue pursuing knowledge through hard work and perseverance.

Following their speeches, Mustafa Zahir Sheikh (Batch 192) presented a song accompanied by  Gazi Md.Mostafa Al Wakil (Batch 192), the beatboxing wizard. Then, graduating students Janie Lionita Das (BA, Batch 193) and Md. Sahedul Islam Hira (MA, Batch 223) gave speeches on their journeys with ULAB and DEH. Next, Marzuk Khan Mojlish (Batch 182) and Allen Henry Costa (Batch 211) performed songs for the graduates. For a moment of fun and memory sharing, the graduates played and an engaging word game, following which a video of the keepsake brochure was displayed.

The event, hosted by Tasmin Bahsira Binth Arman (Batch 201), was organized by Batch 201 under the supervision of Mr. Sheikh Nahiyan, Lecturer, DEH.
