Student Workshop (FA24): Writing CVs and Cover Letters
On November 21, 2024, the Department of English and Humanities at ULAB organized a workshop titled “Writing CVs and Cover Letters,” facilitated by Assistant Professor, DEH, Ms. Nadia Rahman. Designed for final-semester students enrolled in ENG 4208, ENG 4298, and ENG 4299, as well as MA students, the session aimed to equip participants with the essential techniques to create compelling CVs and cover letters.
Ms. Rahman commenced the workshop with individual evaluations of the students’ CVs and offered personalized feedback. She highlighted the importance of self-assessment as a crucial step in identifying and showcasing one’s unique skills, knowledge, and attitude in their CV. Through guided questions, students learned how to extract relevant action verbs and tailor their CVs accordingly by reflecting on their personal experiences, dream jobs, and academic achievements.
Turning to cover letters, Ms. Rahman described them as a “window to one’s CV,” emphasizing their role in justifying the CV’s contents and compelling employers to learn more about the applicant. Students were provided with a comprehensive checklist and formatting guidelines to craft an effective cover letter.
The session concluded with a brief Q&A segment.
