On December 12, 2024, a workshop titled “Mastering Conference Presentation Skills: A Workshop for Scholars Program Students” took place at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). Organized by the Scholars Program Committee at the Department of English and Humanities, the purpose of the workshop was to prepare the Scholars Program students with necessary guidance to effectively produce and present well-rounded research papers and presentations in future academic conferences. The facilitator of the workshop was Ms. Nadia Rahman, Assistant Professor and MA Program Coordinator, Department of English and Humanities.

The facilitator commenced the session by first highlighting the keywords that are related to an academic conference. She advised the students to pay extra attention regarding logistics management while presenting in a conference venue. She then proceeded to discuss the concept of research objectives, explained how the content of an ideal presentation is usually divided into three sections (beginning, middle, and conclusion), and stressed the importance of maintaining eye contact with the judges or audience while presenting.

Afterwards, Ms. Rahman talked about the 4 “P”s of presentation: planning, preparing, practicing, and performing. Then she elaborated on the three aspects of messages (physical message, visual message, and story message) a presenter is supposed to deliver while presenting. While discussing the theoretical framework of a presentation, she advised the students to try to be as focused as possible with their research topics to avoid ambivalence. She also stressed the necessity of effective time management for the delivery of a smooth and successful presentation.

Throughout the workshop, the facilitator kept eliciting active responses from each attending student while discussing the key points. Towards the end of the session, Dr. Md. Mahadhi Hasan, Advisor to the Scholars Program, addressed the students and encouraged them to participate in the academic conferences to build relevant skills and gain experience.

The workshop concluded with a photo session with the facilitator of the session and all the current students of Scholars Program.
