To celebrate the birth anniversary of William Shakespeare and to wind down the semester in a fun and relaxing manner, the Department of English and Humanities at ULAB organized a “Scrabble Challenge” where faculty and students were invited to challenge the Head of the English Department and test out their vocabulary. The event took place at the DEH Lobby on April 30, 2025.

Two boards were set up. The first targeted less experienced players who could play to win by finishing all their tiles. The other board was to Play by Points where scores were kept for the players by MA TA Rudaiba Mahbub.

The Head of the Department of English and Humanities, Ms. Arifa Ghani Rahman, was stationed at the table to play with anyone interested. The first challenger was Ms. Mehek Chowdhury, Lecturer, DEH, who ended up winning the game. Groups of students then played against the HoD while students also challenged each other at the game.

Keeping in mind that Shakespeare is an icon of literature known to have invented innumerable words for the English language, this was a fitting way to celebrate his birthday. As it was also the last day of classes for the Spring 2025 semester, faculty and students had an opportunity to enjoy themselves before the final examinations.

The event was highly appreciated by everyone.
