The Department of English and Humanities (DEH) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh hosted a workshop titled “Job Hunting and Interview Skills” on Thursday, November 27, 2025. The workshop was conducted by Ms. Nadia Rahman, Assistant Professor, DEH. It was designed for the undergraduate students enrolled in the courses ENG 4208, ENG 4298, and ENG 4299. The Masters students were encouraged to attend the workshop as well.

The purpose of the workshop was to provide students with an effective understanding of how they can navigate the job market, create compelling application materials, and conduct oneself with certainty in interviews. The session began by encouraging students to reflect on their intended career paths, whether academic or non-academic, and to assess their strengths, weaknesses, and accumulated skills. The workshop further explored different methods of job searching, demonstrating the wide range of tools available to the applicants. Traditional platforms such as newspaper advertisements continue to be useful, while professional sites like LinkedIn and Bdjobs.com and networking contacts serve an increasingly significant role in today’s job market. Ms. Rahman emphasized networking as a particularly effective approach, encouraging students to actively engage in their university community, get acquainted with peers and alumni, and attend various events to strengthen their connection.

Additionally, Ms. Rahman advised the students to not confine themselves to only academic professions. She stressed that rather than limiting themselves to a singular, specific path, students must be open to exploring different options. While preparing for the job market, students frequently overlook their academic minors, but Ms. Rahman reminded that minors can lead to extended employment opportunities.

The workshop then moved on to the topic of interview skills, as Ms. Rahman briefly discussed several essential interview techniques, such as planning ahead what to say about one’s strengths, skill areas, and work experience according to the position applied for. Moreover, Ms. Rahman addressed the significance of doing thorough background research on the institution before attending any interview. Students were instructed to familiarize themselves with the organization’s principles, current initiatives, and the particular demands of the job. In addition to giving candidates a more assured response, this preparation reflects an earnest interest in and dedication to the position. She also brought up the necessity of dressing appropriately, being punctual, speaking intuitively, and maintaining professionalism during the interview. She concluded by noting that interviewers assess not only academic knowledge but also communication skills, composure, and the ability to articulate ideas effectively.

Overall, the session gave valuable insights into career preparation, enhancing skills, and effective interview techniques. It served as a timely and enriching experience for those preparing to transition from academic life to their professional careers.
