The Department of English and Humanities (DEH) at University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organized a special dialogue on Sunday titled “On Composition Studies: A Dialogue,” where UGC Professor Dr. Fakrul Alam joined a discussion with North South University’s Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammad Shamsuzzaman.

The dialogue was moderated by ULAB Pro Vice Chancellor and Head of DEH, Professor Shamsad Mortuza. In the dialogue, both the discussants emphasized that reading more was non-negotiable when it came to developing one’s writing skills. UGC Professor Dr. Fakrul Alam said that introducing variations in sentence and paragraph writing was essential for any good literary work, but cautioned that an author must learn the rules of writing before trying to break one. Dr. Shamsuzzaman argued about the necessity of integrating composition studies into the English and Humanities discipline and giving it an equal place alongside literature.

The program was attended by guests from other universities as well as students and faculty members from different departments of ULAB.
